■ How to Choose This Transformer

At one kilovolt-ampere the TC-1000 carries approximately 800W of continuous resistive load, or roughly 300–400W once the surge factor of a motor is taken into account. Size from the appliance rating plate, apply 1.5 × for heating and electronic equipment and 2.5–3 × for anything with an induction motor, and remember that a toroidal core tolerates short overloads less gracefully than a laminated one — there is no thermal mass to absorb them. Where the calculated load lands above 800W, step up within the same toroidal family rather than running this frame at its limit.

Three details decide the order:

  • the conversion direction and the supply voltage where the unit will be used;
  • whether one or two output sockets are needed, and to which standard;
  • whether an input voltage selector should be fitted, since it is an option on this range.

■ Toroidal Behaviour at 1KVA

Compared with a laminated converter of the same rating, the toroidal core in the TC-1000 reduces core loss, cuts audible hum to a level that is unobtrusive in a quiet room and confines the magnetic field inside the winding. Two practical consequences follow. First, the unit can sit near audio equipment or measurement wiring without shielding. Second, because there is less thermal mass, sustained overload shows up as heat quickly — the fuse protects against faults, not against a sustained overload, so keep the load inside the rating.

■ Pricing, Ordering & Quality Assurance

Step Up & Step Down Transformer Price Range (100VA–10KVA)

Pricing for the DT/ST series depends on capacity, the input/output voltage combination you need, socket type, and whether a voltage selector or MCB protection is fitted. The table below gives indicative FOB levels so you can budget before requesting a firm quotation.

Model Capacity Input / Output Voltage Typical Application Indicative FOB Price (per pc)*
ST/DT-100 100VA 110V ↔ 220V selectable Small electronics, chargers, control circuits US$ 10–15
ST/DT-200 200VA 110V ↔ 220V selectable Bench instruments, small appliances US$ 11–16
ST/DT-300 300VA 110V ↔ 220V selectable Audio equipment, laboratory benches US$ 12-18
ST/DT-500 500VA 110V ↔ 220V selectable Refrigeration units, printers, POS systems US$ 12-20

* Indicative FOB Ningbo/Shanghai, standard configuration, based on 50 pcs per size. Not a formal offer — final price depends on your voltage combination, socket standard, enclosure and order quantity.

  1. The efficiency of the DT/ST series is 80%. For equipment with motors or compressors, the starting current will multiply — always reserve adequate power margin.
  2. Pure resistive / electronic loads: choose a transformer with capacity ≥ 1.5× the equipment rated power.
  3. Inductive loads such as motors and compressors: choose a transformer with capacity ≥ 2.5–3× the equipment rated power.
  4. This table is for reference only. Confirm the final solution according to the rated power and duty cycle shown on your equipment nameplate.

■ FAQ

What is the difference between the TC and the THG models?

Both are wound on the same toroidal core and cover the same power range. The THG designation is used for the standard market range and TC for the more compact enclosures. Ratings and electrical behaviour are equivalent.

Can the TC-1000 run continuously?

Yes, within rating. For continuous duty keep the load at or below about 800W, because a toroidal core has less thermal mass than a laminated one and sustained overload shows up as heat rather than as a slow warm-up.

Why does a toroidal transformer cost more than a laminated one?

Winding a core as a toroid is slower and needs heavier copper-handling equipment, so the labour content is higher. In return you get a lower stray field, less audible hum and a smaller envelope for the same rating — which is why the design is preferred near audio and measurement equipment.

Can I order a non-standard output voltage?

Yes. Both windings can be wound to a bespoke ratio, with a minimum of fifty pieces per specification and a lead time of 15–25 working days. Standard models ship in 10–20 working days.

Will it work on a 60Hz supply?

Yes. The core is designed for 50/60Hz operation and the output frequency simply follows the input. There is no frequency conversion.
