■ How to Choose This Transformer
Work from the equipment nameplate rather than from the transformer. Total the input watts of every load that can run simultaneously, then apply 1.5 × for heating and electronic equipment, 2.5 × for pumps and fans, and up to 5 × for compressors and refrigeration. On a 5KVA frame the practical ceiling works out at roughly 2,600W of resistive load, 1,600W of motor load or 800W of compressor load, which puts it in HVAC plant, packaged machinery and small sub-distribution rather than hand tools.
Three points decide the final specification:
- whether the unit will be hardwired through a terminal block or run from a cord and plug;
- the socket standard required in the destination market;
- the conditions at the installation point, since the frame needs 10cm of free air on every face and should not be boxed into a sealed cabinet.

What can the DT-5000VA realistically power?
About 2,600W of resistive load, 1,600W of pump or fan load, or 800W of compressor load. Starting current rather than running watts is the limiting factor, which is why this frame suits HVAC plant, packaged machinery and sub-distribution rather than power tools.
Can it be hardwired instead of plugged in?
Yes. The 5000VA frame accepts a terminal-block input as well as an on-board socket. For permanent installations we recommend a dedicated isolator upstream so the transformer can be locked off during maintenance.
Does a transformer change the supply frequency?
No. It converts voltage only, so the output frequency always matches the input. Where a genuine 50Hz to 60Hz change is needed, a frequency converter is required instead.
Should I choose this unit or the 5KVA model in the ST range?
Both share the same core, enclosure and internal layout. The DT-5000VA is catalogued for step-up duty (110V to 220V) and the ST 5000W for step-down duty (220V to 110V); either direction is available on both models through the input voltage selector.
